Bracciano is built on a hill above the clear water of Lake Bracciano, a volcanic lake where it is possible to canoe, scuba-dive, sail and much more (especially during hot summertime days, when a dip in the lake can be most refreshing). Lake Bracciano is actually an important hub for several sports, given the presence of the Bracciano-Martignano Natural Park, that puts a prime on silence and water quality by limiting the number of motorized watercraft.
The Park, of course, comprises another lake, that of Martignano; also boasting volcanic origins, it is characterized by its small size and almost perfectly-circular form.
The two lakes are really two peas in a pod: born from the same volcano (but from two different craters), each is highly-protected and welcomes a large number of tourists every year. --

Cerveteri, an ancient city formerly known as Caere, lies between the Lago di Bracciano and the Tyrrhenian Sea near Ladispoli. The city dates back to the middle of the 9th century BC during which the Etruscans were the most prosperous and developed civilization within Italy; indeed, they had profound influence on Roman civilization and were merged in the 1st century BC. Cerveteri is famous for its Etruscan necropoli which are on the UNESCO World Heritage list. The Necropoli della Banditaccia is an expansive area comprised of Etruscan funeral mounds that house one or more tombs within them. The tombs date from the 8th century BC to the 2nd century BC and are a tangible example of ancient burial practices.

With this excursion, you can visit two areas chosen by modern Romans to enjoy silent and paceful spots: Bracciano and Ceri. Bracciano is definitely beautiful and worth exploring, even though the only official tourist attraction in Bracciano is Castello Odescalchi. However, the medieval lanes are romantic and evocative. Climbing the lane to the right of the castle walls, visitors will find themselves in a place that time seems to have forgotten: a warren of winding, sloping medieval lanes and alleys. Around the far side of this little hilltop is a pretty belvedere with lovely peaceful views over Lake Bracciano and the green countryside speckled with olive groves and woodlands. You can also decide to take a bath. Ceri is the second stop for you. Over there, the time seems to be just a point of view.
